Hyderabad: Booster Shot of Covaxin Covid-19 developed originally, managed six months after getting two vaccine doses, has been found to successfully neutralize the two Omicron and Delta variants from SARS-COV-2, a study conducted at Emory University has shown.
Bharat Biotech said the study conducted using the neutralization test of the virus immediately showed a booster dose produced a strong neutralization antibody response to the two Omicrons (B.1.617.2).
“100% serum test samples show neutralization of Delta variants and more than 90% of serum samples show neutralization of omicron variants,” said Bharat Biotech, indicating that this data adds the body of evidence that the broad spectrum mechanism of the actions of the entire Covid-19 vaccine virus that is not active Covaxin is a decent option in this growing pandemic.
Bharat Biotech said the neutralization activity of the serum enhanced Covaxin was comparable to what had been observed in the serum that pushed the MRNA vaccine against the omicron variant with more than 90% of all individuals driven by covaxin which showed antibodies.
“As the dominant Covid-19 variant around the world, Omicron raises serious public health concerns,” said Mehul Suthar, Assistant Professor, Emory Vaccine Center, who led laboratory analysis.
“Data from this preliminary analysis shows that the individual who receives a dose of Booster Covaxin has a significant immune response to the omicron and delta variants.
These findings indicate that the booster dose has the potential to reduce the severity of the disease and hospitalization,” he added.
This study will be published on the pre-print server, Medrxiv, immediately.
