Bhubaneswar: The crime branch on Tuesday joined the Gajapati police in investigating the mysterious death of the Soumya Forest officer Ranjan Mohapatra (32).
“We have not taken over the district police.
We will help the police.
A team led by police deputy supervisor Bijay Kumar Mallick has been sent to help the Gajapati District Police,” said Director General (Crime Branch) Sanjeeb Panda.
The development came a day after the deceased father, Abhiram Mohapatra, met DGP Abhay and asked him to question Crime Branch (CB).
Considering the sensitivity of this case, Abhay asked CB to guide the Gajapati police in this case.
Soumya, which was supplied as an assistant forest conservator (ACF) in Paradadihemundi, suffered serious burns in his home on July 11.
He and his wife Bharati Bidya were present at home when the incident occurred.
