Bhubaneswar: The crime branch on Tuesday joined the Gajapati police in investigating the mysterious death of the Soumya Forest officer Ranjan Mohapatra (32).
“We have not taken over the district police.
We will help the police.
A team led by police deputy supervisor Bijay Kumar Mallick has been sent to help the Gajapati District Police,” said Director General (Crime Branch) Sanjeeb Panda.
The development came a day after the deceased father, Abhiram Mohapatra, met DGP Abhay and asked him to question Crime Branch (CB).
Considering the sensitivity of this case, Abhay asked CB to guide the Gajapati police in this case.
Soumya, which was supplied as an assistant forest conservator (ACF) in Paradadihemundi, suffered serious burns in his home on July 11.
He and his wife Bharati Bidya were present at home when the incident occurred.

Then, he shifted to the hospital in Cuttack, where he gave up on injury on July 13.
On July 15, the police registered a murder case against three people – Bidya, cooked them and gajapati DFO SK Behera – following complaints by the father of deceased, who accused that his son was killed by his three.
Soumya and Bidya married last year.

“My son’s extraordinary mental pressure because of his wife’s torment.
He, the cook and DFO conspired and carried out the murder of my son.
They tried to portray the murder as an accident and misleading the police by claiming that my son had an injury from a gas stove cooking,” Abbiram told the media , Bidya denied the allegations.
“The accusation against me was wrong and unfounded.
I did not kill my husband.
Soumya’s parents have questioned my character.
But their son (my husband) usually teases women by telephone and may have developed an extramarital affair,” he told reporters on Tuesday.
