Beijing: The death toll in the collapse of a hotel in East China was raised until 17 Wednesday because the authorities ended the search and rescue mission.
The city of Suzhou said on its social media feed that 23 people had been withdrawn alive from the debris of the Kaiyuan Hotel, which collapsed on Tuesday afternoon.
Rescuers use cranes, stairs, metal cutters, and search dogs to find the survivors.
Twenty-three people have been stuck.
Most of them killed are hotel guests.
More than 600 people including the earthquake rescue team and 120 vehicles have been mobilized for operations.
The city of Suzhou is in Jiangsu Province near Shanghai.
