New Delhi: Thakur’s Anurag Minister of Sports on Wednesday said the decision on Indian participation in the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan would be taken “when the time arrived” because there was still a “security problem” for touring neighboring countries.
The ICC on Tuesday gave hosting rights from the 2025 championship trophy to Pakistan which would mark the return of large cricket events to the country after more than two decades.
“In the past, many countries had come out of going there because of security problems.
As you know, the players were even attacked while playing there and it was a big problem,” said Thakur told reporters.
“When the international championship is held, many factors are taken into account.
When the time comes, we will see what to do.
We will assess the security situation and decide,” he added.
Thakur said that the home ministry would be involved in decision making.
There is no bilateral cricket that occurs between India and Pakistan since 2012.
Pakistan, the last time holding the 1996 World Cup co-hosted along with India and Sri Lanka, has not been able to hold many international matches in the country since the 2009 terrorist attack on the Sri Lanka team Lahore.
Recently, New Zealand and England have withdrawn from their bilateral tour to Pakistan because of security issues.
