Coimbatore: more than eight months after the State Government was issued by the commercial commercial investigation wing (CCIW) with the wing of economic violations (EOW-II-Financial Institutions), the wing continued to function as a separate entity.
CIW was formed in 1971 to investigate the misuse of funds at Agricultural credit community.
EOW was formed in 1999 to handle cases related to the default in payment of deposits after maturity by non-banking financial companies and non-moving financial institutions.
The CCIW unit is present in 29 districts and EOW in 15 districts.
“The CCIw personnel registered one or two cases a year.
Most of them did not work on weekends.
But EOW personnel are investigating some financial fraud and desperative wings need more people,” said a source.
“Former Director General of Police J Tripathy has sent a merger proposal to use labor effectively.” CCIW functions at Jawan Bhavan in Coimbatore City, where he has 20 personnel including the deputy police supervisor.
EOW-II, based in the city police commissioner, has 15-20 personnel.
“The EOW unit here occupies a small office.
If the CCIw unit is combined with EOW, there will be no room for all personnel.
So, we plan to request permission to build an exclusive office for the EOW unit,” said a senior police officer.
“Some cases are delayed with EOW due to lack of labor.
The state government must take steps immediately to combine wings.”
