New Delhi: Delhi Tree Authority (DTA), a legal entity founded in 1995 to preserve trees in the capital, mostly lying, revealing RTI data.
Meanwhile it should meet every three months, DTA only holds eight of the 104 meetings mandated from the start, data compiled by environmental lawyers has revealed.
Data also shows DTA, which is needed to give approval to fall trees for any project, just met three times in the last eight years.
Aditya N Prasad, a lawyer who proposed RTIS, has now written to the Secretary of the Delhi Head who asked for an investigation to examine the reasons for violations of the Conservation of Delhi Pesaring Act (DAWA), 1994 and took the necessary actions to ensure routine meetings.
Legal body view means to protect and preserve the capital trees seem to be lost in action.
It is unacceptable, especially in a city that is favored by pollution.
Those who are the body must take their work seriously and meet regularly.
Following Part 4, Authority “should meet at least 104 times until the first date at 24.07.1995.
However, the record revealed that the tree authorities just met eight times until now …
this letter intends to bring to your non-notification Serious implementation of the provision of required regulation and ignoring the obligation of the Tree Authority Act “, Prasad wrote.
RTI replies collected by him revealed that the first meeting was held by DTA only on October 5, 2007, while it was founded in 1995.
DTA then met on April 5, 2011; February 2 and September 4, 2012; July 22, 2013; December 2, 2016; November 9, 2017; and September 25, 2019.
Under the registration, the authority is needed to preserve trees, carry out existing tree census, maintain nursery and provide puppies for people.
It can also make trees planted or transplanted and conduct critical studies for proposals from the government for construction projects with the aim of protecting existing trees or more.
“Given the legislative mandate above, I urge you to take awareness of the violations of the law mentioned above and consider assigning an investigation to check the reason because that is the provisions of the required regard to be ignored,” Prasad urged.
“You are also asked to simplify the instructions needed to officials concerned to ensure that the tree authority conducts routine meetings as mandated by Part 4,” he added, requesting the agenda and minutes of the meeting will be available in public.
