New Delhi: Details of the detention period of prisoners must be included in the public domain to facilitate the release of the prisoners by making them aware of their rights to premature release by taking advantage of remission, sparking liberation, the Supreme Court has said.
The bench led by Judge N V Ramana has requested a response from the Delhi government to create a portal to provide details about the period of detention experienced by prisoners.
The bench, also consisted of Surya Kant’s justice, was not impressed with the Delhi government argument that there were fears of violations of rights to prisoner privacy if the details, such as the detention period, were included in the public domain.
