New Delhi: Election Commission held a series of virtual meetings on Saturday to decide whether the prohibition was forced by physical demonstrations and roadshows to prevent the spread of Coronavirus to continue.
Announced dates for elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab and Manipur on January 8, Poll panels have announced a ban on physical, road and bicycle demonstrations, and similar campaign events until January 15.
On January 15, the Commission was extended, however, the ban until January 22.
However, it provides relaxation for political parties to hold indoor meetings with a maximum of 300 people or 50 percent of the capacity of the hall.
The poll panel holds virtual meet to look for input from the Ministry of Health Union, experts, five polls and each head election officer to arrive at the decision, the official source said.
