Paris: The Eiffel Tower reopened on Friday for the first time in nine months even though the French government introduced the rules of the new virus this week aimed to tame the Delta variant which spread rapidly.
“Lady Iron” Paris was ordered to be closed in October because France fought against the second virus surge in pandemic.
The tower remains closed for renovation even after most of the main French tourist attractions opened back last month.
The reopening arrived four days after President Emmanuel Macron announced new steps aimed at counteracting the fourth surge, including mandatory vaccination for health workers and compulsory Covid-19 bait to enter the restaurant and places like the Eiffel Tower.
Starting on Wednesday, all visitors to the monument over the age of 18 need to show permits that prove that they have been fully vaccinated, having a negative virus test or recently recovered from Covid-19.
The number of daily visitors to the tower will be limited to 10,000 a day, not 25,000.
France has opened itself to international tourists this summer, but the rules vary greatly depending on which countries they come from.
The number of visitors has been near the normal level given on sustainable border restrictions and the risk of viruses.
