The elderly pair was injured in an explosion at home in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: The sustainable old couple burned wounds in the explosion in their homes in Hampinagar in Vijaynagar, West Bengaluru, post Sunday at midnight.
While Suryanarayana Shetty, 74, was undergoing treatment at a private hospital, Pushpavataamma Shetty, 70, which sustained 50% burned, had been treated at Victoria Hospital.
Both were sleeping in the hall, while their son Dinesh Shetty, fell asleep in the bedroom when the explosion occurred at 12:45 a.m.
All three live on the first floor of a two-story residential building.
Dinesh is a private company employee.
The explosion triggered panic among residents in the area when the sound was heard up to half a kilometer.
Five neighboring houses were also damaged in the explosion.
The window panel and door of these houses developed cracks.
The adjacent houses are broken.
Dinesh Shetty said they suspected the explosion could be caused by leakage from the cooking gas cylinder or the newly purchased refrigerator.
“The two gas cylinders are intact.
But the fridge purchased online 15 days ago has been broken into many pieces.
We have maintained a refrigerator near the door.
Slide gas and other electrical items intact,” said Dinesh Shetty.
The police suspected the gas leak triggered an explosion.
“An electric engineer checks the place and argues that it can be a case of gas leakage.
However, there are no explosives stored at home.
This is purely an accident.
Leaked gas filled in the room or the hall can cause an explosion even when the cylinder remains intact,” said An inquiry officer.
