Boston: Boston is at the top narrowing the Mayor’s hopes for the first time for two colors, maybe both women – striking changes from a series of white people chosen in the first 200 years in 200 years.
On Tuesday, voters gave ballots in the election of preliminary mayor who would choose two top competitors from the field of five main candidates, all of which were people, four women.
The two winners will face each other on November 2, leading a new era for a city that has grappled with racial and ethnic disputes.
Acting Mayor of Kim Janey, Annissa Ossiibi Annissa George, Andrea Campbell and Michelle Wu, and John Barros, the former head of the city’s economic development, all competed to be one of the main competitors.
Janey has made history, becoming the first black Bostonian and the first woman to occupy the city’s top office in acting capacity after the former Mayor of Marty Walsh resigned earlier this year to become President Secretary of President Joe Biden.
All candidates are Democrats.
The Mayor’s race in Boston is not an introduction to the party.
Polling Open from 7am to 8 nights ET.
Candidates praise from various backgrounds.
Wu’s parents immigrated to the United States from Taiwan.
Janey and Campbell black.
Essaibi George described himself as the first generation Arab-Polish America.
Barros is a descendant of Cape Verdean.
Wu has led to four other major candidates in a number of recent polls, preparing the race among other competitors for the second place if the Wu leads.
Boston has changed radically since the 1970s heel-at-the-heels, when the city found himself in the national spotlight for the chaos caused by school desegregation, and in the late 1980s, when the case of Charles Stuart returned back boil racial tension.
The latest US census statistics show residents who identify as a white make-up of 44.6 percent of the population compared to black populations (19.1 percent), Latin residents (18.7 percent), and population of Asian descent (11.2 percent) .
This city has also changed politically.
In 2018, a former member of the Boston City Council, Ayanna Pressley beat the old Democratic Representative Report.
Michael Capuano to be the first black woman chosen for Congress from Massachusetts.
In the same year, Rachael Rollins, a former federal prosecutor, won the election to become the lawyer of Boston’s first female district and the first woman to hold such work in Massachusetts.
In July, he was nominated by Biden to become the Top Federal Prosecutor of the State.
Among the challenges faced by the city are caused by gentrification, which has forced many long-term residents, including those who are historically black.
Coupled with it is a number of other challenges that will face the new mayor, from transportation misery, racial injustice and police to schools and ongoing response to Pandemic Covid-19.
One of the most urgent problems is housing costs, which goes beyond the financial facilities of many tenants and prospective homeowners.
There was a moment of controversy during the campaign.
Janey was blamed for asking slavery and lies about Barack Obama’s citizenship driven by Donald Trump when discussing New York’s efforts to ask people to prove that they were vaccinated before entering public settings in the room.
He then walked back the comparison, said “I hope I don’t use that analogy.” Essaibi George also found himself under supervision after Boston Globe reported the city council office tried to undermine a building project that would block the view of the luxury condo owned by her husband.
Essaibi George then said the name of her husband had never appeared in the city hearing and he only realized his involvement after being questioned by reporters.
This contest is also the first initial election in the history of the city to allow mail-in voting.
This contest was also allowed for voting early last week.
