Brussels: The European Union has no choice but to talk to the Taliban in Afghanistan, said the top block diplomat on Tuesday, adding that Brussels will try to coordinate with the EU government to regulate diplomatic presence in Kabul.
“The Afghan crisis has not ended,” UE Foreign Policy Head Josep Borrell told the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
“To have the opportunity to influence events, we have no choice but to engage with the Taliban,” Borrell said, adding that the EU would emphasize the importance of human rights.
“Maybe it is pure oxymoron to talk about human rights but this is what we must ask them,” he said.
