Nicosia: The European Union will “never, once” received two countries about Cyprus who split ethnic, the chief executive said on Thursday.
Ursula Von Der Leyen, who visited Cyprus, said the European Union spoke with one vote on the conflict, which has been dragged for decades and is the main obstacle in Turkish ambitions to join the block.
“I want to repeat it, we will never receive two state solutions.
We are firm about it and are very united,” said Von der Leyen told a press conference.
Cyprus was divided into Turkish invasion in 1974 triggered by a brief Greece inspired coup.
The South is run by an internationally recognized government that represents the entire island in the European Union, while northern is a Turkish Cyprus country that separates itself is only recognized by Ankara.
The UN LED efforts that preceded 1974 events failed to unite the island.
