Rajkot: Rajkot Airport Terminal Expansion Project has a principle approval of the Indian Airport Authority (AAI).
With the increasing number of daily aviation since 2018 and the addition of more expected flights this year, the current airport terminal capacity to accommodate 125 passengers will prove to be inadequate, a local airport official said.
Rajkot Airport handles five flights per day in 2018 which has increased to eight flights per day today.
Three other flights tend to be added soon.
The authorities of the airport in Rajkot first proposed the terminal expansion in 2018.
It has proposed to extend the terminal to the runway area.
Because permission is needed from the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the project proposal is trapped.
About two months ago, a new proposal was sent and this time it was proposed to extend the terminal from the front side where DGCA permits were not needed for terminal expansion and after completing the budget, the work is expected to begin in December this year.
