Ramanthapuram: Family members and relatives of a 21-year-old student in the district, who died on Sunday, refused to accept his body on Monday who accused the torture by the police.
They protested outside the Ramanathapuram government hospital where the body was stored after postmortem.
However, the police have denied the allegations.
The source said that the preliminary report of the postmortem examination revealed that there were no external injuries to the body and organs as well as intact.
There are also signs of victims choking food.
Blood and liquids are found in the abdomen that may be caused by poisoning or excessive alcohol.
Fluid samples are being sent for forensic examinations to ensure the cause of death.
According to sources, L Manikandan Neerkolyendal village was detained by Keelatooval police on Jalan Paramakudi-Keezhithooval during vehicle checks on Saturday.
Manikandan, who drove a two-wheeled vehicle, did not stop when the police tried to stop him.
The police chased him and arrested him.
They took him to the Keelathooval police station for an investigation.
On Saturday night, the student was released from the station.
His parents and brothers took him home.
Manikandan is not healthy later and around 2am on Sunday he was found dead with signs of foam in the mouth.
He rushed to the Mudukulathur government hospital but was declared as requested.
The family member of the student alleged that he had been beaten by the police who resulted in his death.
