Surendranasagar: Gujarat Tarnetar Exhibition, which attracts a large number of tourists from all over India and abroad, will not be held for the second consecutive year this year because of the Coronavirus situation, a senior official said on Saturday.
Annual exhibition at Temple of Trinetreshwar Mahadev in Tarnetar Village was held every year for three days in August-September.
“But it has been canceled this year because of the prevailing pandemic situation and the latest Covid-19 notification of the Gujarat government which prohibits meeting more than 400 people in public programs,” said the Surendranagar Regency collector, said Ka Aurangabadkar.
State notification allows all temples to stay open for other prayers and rituals, but worshipers must follow Covid-19 norms, he said.
“It has also been decided that Tarnetar Fair will not be allowed to be held this year because of the Coronavirus situation.
But the worshipers can visit the temple to give a prayer,” he said, adding that the exhibition was canceled last year due to a pandemic.
Worshipers and tourists appear in large quantities to take part in the exhibition, which has been described as “folk dance celebrations, music, costumes and ethnic art of Gujarat, centered around men and women who are looking for marriage partners” as described by the Department State tourism on its official website.
In the latest notice issued on Friday, the state government has allowed all functions of religion, social, education, culture and politics to be held with no more than 400 participants in open land, and with half the capacity in the closed area with these numbers Exceeded 400.
Although the number of daily infection cases had dropped significantly in Gujarat, the government said that it was alert to remember the third wave of possible pandemics.
