Nagpur: As in the case of Covishield, Nagpur Regency has received a quarter of a covaxin dose compared to Pune District.
In the latest allocation, Nagpur, with the fifth largest population among 35 districts in the state, get a vaccine that is lower than all other districts, except Palghar, which gets the least dose.
Seeing the performance of the past and the availability of stock in the allocation of the districts – wise, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has decided to start Jab Covaxin for the 18-44 age group Monday.
Toi has reported on July 3 that this district was allocated 45,100 covishield doses as against requests for 3.5 lakh.
This district allocation is 1,09,700 doses since the resumption of vaccination groups aged 18-44 on June 23.
At the same time, the allocation of Pune District is 3.73,280 doses, 3.4 times more than Nagpur Regency.
On Saturday, Nagpur received 4,400 covaxin doses, which was the least after the Palghar district (2,200), while Pune District received 30,600 doses.
After Mumbai, Pune, Thane and Nashik, the Nagpur district has the highest population in the state in accordance with the State Department of Public Health (PhD).
Since June 23, this district has received a total of 14,700 covaxin doses while Pune District has received 58,250 doses.
In accordance with PhD data, the estimated population of Nagpur Regency is 52.72 lakh and the number of dual Pune regencies at 1.17 crores.
But when it comes to Covaxin, the Pune district has received four times more doses compared to the Nagpur district.
BJP MLA from Nagpur Timur Krishna Khopde accused discrimination in vaccine allocation by the state government.
“Nagpurians get a vaccine for one or two days a week.
But I have never heard of vaccination breaks in Mumbai and Pune because of lack of dose,” he said.
The Director of State Health Services Dr.
Archana Patil told TI that the covishield allocation to the district was in accordance with the performance of the last three days.
About Covaxin, Dr.
Patil said that the allocation was based on how many beneficiaries for the second dose.
On whether Covaxin was allowed for the 18-44 year age group, Dr.
Patil said that instructions had been given to allow it if the two doses of the previous vaccinated person were completed.
NMC has facilitated Covaxin at only three of the total 142 centers over the past two months or more.
It is only available for the second 45-plus category for more than a month.
The first 45-plus dose continued a few days ago.
The Civic body has around 18,500 covaxin doses available on Sundays.
But it made three closed central because there was no covishield dose for the remaining 138 centers.
Strangely, NMC did not continue the first dose of Covaxin for the 18-44 age group even though there wasn’t much waiting for the second dose.
According to the NMC data, 39,387 has taken the first dose and from them 34,367 has taken the second dose.
The difference of 5,020 beneficiaries may be caused by the first jab taken in the last 28 days or some may have been infected, so delay the second dose.
NMC officials told TII that the government had instructed to use Covaxin with only the second dose.
“Therefore, we do not provide the first dose to the age group 18-44.
In the latest allocation we receive very few doses when compared to other districts.
Therefore, we make a decision to start Covaxin to all.
We also increase the number of centers,” said they.
The majority of doctors have advised people, especially comorbid, must take Covaxin because of its higher efficacy and very small bad events after immunization (AEFI).
But many people don’t get Covaxin due to lack of dosage.
There is no vaccination on Sundays in the city due to lack of covishield doses.
In 11 private hospitals, 3,978 people took Jab.
In rural areas, 4,585 people were given a dose in 45 centers.
There will be no vaccination in 138 covishield centers in the city on Monday as well, for the second day in a row, and for the sixth time in the last seven days.
