Dehradun: In the first arrest in the case of Dharma Sansad’s speech hated, Waseem Rizvi, aka Jitendra Narayan Tyagi, was arrested from Roorkee in Haridwar district on Thursday.
Rizvi who changed his name to Jitendra Narayan Tyagi after converting with Hinduism was among the more than 10 people mentioned in the firs together with this case.
He was previously head of the Uttar Pradesh Shia waqf board.
Waseem Rizvi was arrested from the Narsan border, Roorkee, Senior Supervisor of Haridwar from the Police (SSP) Yogendra took care of PTI.
This is the first arrest in this case.
Some participants in Dharma Sansad held at Haridwar from December 17-19 have been accused of giving a provocative speech to Muslims.
When asked whether more arrests would follow, SSP said it would depend on how the investigation took place.
The Uttarakhand government was under extraordinary pressure from various quarters to take action against those who had delivered a speech at the event.
Even the Supreme Court has attracted the state government on Wednesday because it did not act against the guilt even for days after the incident.
