New Delhi: The Minister of Sports Anurag Thakur on Saturday gave an official request to the first batch in India from the Tokyo Olympics athletes from eight disciplines at Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Thakur was accompanied by sports minister, Nisith Pramanik, Sports Authority Director General of Sandip Pradhan and officials of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), including President Narinder Batra and Secretary General of Rajeev Mehta.
A contingent of 88 members, which includes 54 athletes in addition to supporting staff and IOA representatives, leaving for the Japanese capital on Saturday night to participate in the Covid-hit Tokyo match, which will begin within a week on July 23.
