Agra: The Microbiology Department of SN Medical College (SNMC) in Agra has stated that one of the samples sent to the sequencing of the George George Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow has been tested positively for Kappa variants (B.1.617.2) from Covid-19 , The 37-year-old man, who was infected with the Kappa variant, was hospitalized after a positive test for Covid-19 in May.
The patient has fully recovered now.
The Kappa variant was first detected in India last year with cases mostly reported from Kerala.
Head of the Department of Microbiology at SNMC Dr.
Aarti Agarwal, said, “About 15 samples of Covid-19 patients were sent to the genome sequencing to KgMu.
From this, one sample was positively tested for the Kappa variant.
This is the first case of the Kappa variant reported by our lab.
In addition, 12 other samples were positively tested for Delta variants which were the most common variants during the second wave of Covid-19.
“The principle of SNMC Dr.
Prashant Gupta said,” The Delta and Kappa variants were actually biological brothers, descent directly from the previous variant called As a double mutant, or B.1.617.
The patient whose sample was tested positive for the Kappa variant had fully recovered from the infection.
It is good that there are no cases of Delta Plus variants that appear in the sequencing of the genome.
“” Delta variant plus more contagious and avoiding more body immunity Quickly compared to the Delta variant.
People need to strictly follow the Covid-19 protocol.
Get vaccination, wearing a mask ER face and keeping social distance will prevent us from the possibility of the third wave of Covid-19, “he said.
