Noida: The Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) will immediately begin MRI facilities with a public-private partnership model (PPP).
The setting is expected to cost more than Rs 5 Crore and will be the first of its kind in the government center in the district.
“We started the CT scan facility in 2020 and the MRI engine will start functioning in February next year.
All preparations and approvals are in place,” said Dr.
(Brig) Rakesh Gupta, Director, GIMS.
He added that the tender had floated.
At present, there is no government hospital in Gautam Budh Nagar and Ghaziabad have facilities and usually refer their patients to government centers in Delhi and Meerut.
Often, this causes a lot of discomfort for patients, who are forced to spend a large number in getting tests conducted at a private diagnostic center or hospital.
Apart from this, GIMS has also made arrangements for neurosurgeons through corporate companies.
“There are three neurosurgeons who come to the hospital regularly and pay attention to patients.
Likewise, we have also made arrangements for gastroenterologists and reconstructive surgeons.
They are all paid Rs 2,000 per visit,” said Dr.
Gupta.
Sources in the Ministry of Health said MRI facilities cannot begin in the district level hospital because they are intended to treat general patients.
Also, they have no specialists such as neurosurgeons to provide tertiary level care.
“Only having a MRI machine in the district hospital will not serve any purpose if the treatment of follow-up cannot be given to patients after MRI or CT scanning,” added the source.
Most of the district hospitals in the state do not have the basic strength to run medical facilities, especially specialists, they said.
GIMS also plans to start the sequencing of Covid patients to detect a new variant in March next year.
Officials say this facility will appear at a cost of Rs 2 Crore.
