Panaji: Congress has begun the process of strangling candidates for assembly selection of 2022 and will announce his first list at the end of November or early December, said the State President of Girish Chodankar on Sunday.
The party has formed the Election Screening Committee.
Chodankar also insisted that the party would choose a new face and younger candidate for 80% of the constituency.
However, Congress will not project the prospective leader ahead of the election and will decide on the post only after the results of the poll arrived, he said.
In the 2017 assembly selection, Congress won 17 seats at home 40-member, limiting the 13th BJP, but disagreement over the position of minister’s head and other factors had allowed BJP to rise and form a coalition government.
“People want candidates declared earlier.
Our process of candidate shortlisted for Goa polls will gather momentum because the party has announced the filtering committee for Goa.
At least 70% to 80% of Congress candidates will be young and new,” Chodankar said.
All Indian Congress Committee (AICC) has chosen MPS Rajni Patil and Hibi Eden, Dhruv Narayan, AICC responsible for the Goa desk, Dinesh Gundu Rao, Chodankar leader and opposition leader drawn Kamates to complete the names of candidates.
The Pradesh Election Committee will choose a list of candidates chosen by various blocks and submit it to the screening committee.
Chodankar and Rao insisted that no 10 MLA left the party and joining BJP will be considered.
While Chodankar refused to comment on the pre-poll alliance, Rao has confirmed that the party was talking to the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), PARTY FORWARD Cave (GFP) and the Gomantak Maharashtradi Party (MGP).
“As far as I know, the parties who have advanced to have an alliance, the conversation continues with them.
But I don’t know the details,” Chodankar said.
“Party strategists will make a decision based on what the party needs and what Goa people want.” Chodankar said the party block committee would be considered confident when he decided the candidate.
“More importantly it will be given to candidates recommended by the Block Committee in each constituency,” he said.
