New Delhi: The United States and India are looking at September 23-26 as much as possible dates for the first bilateral summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden in Washington.
There is also a preparation for the Quad Summit on one of these dates.
However, an unexpected political situation in Japan where Prime Minister Suga Yoshide announced that he resigned, it seems that the failure to control the spread of Covid-19, can make a quad scheduling a little uncertain.
Suga might leave at the end of the month.
He is not a candidate for posting the next LDP party president or PM.
So it’s not clear whether Suga will be able to travel to the US in the last week of September.
If all plans, modi is likely to cram at least three major events – the address in the UN General Assembly in a year when India is a member of UNSC, the first bilateral summit with Biden and may be a personal KTT Quad.
Of course, the first two shows are currently on track.
PM Modi is scheduled to overcome Unga on September 25, according to the outstanding list of circulating.
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, who spoke to Biden on Saturday, told reporters he would travel to Washington DC for the Quad Summit “in the fall”, which has been interpreted to mean anytime in the next few months, due to uncertainty from the Japanese situation .
Modi-Biden bilateral summit comes after tectonic changes in Afghan and regional geopolitical equations.
However, challenges from China for both countries remain high, therefore focus on quad meetings.
The two countries have been hit by Covid-19, and both countries hope to advance vaccine partnerships that can see India produces more vaccines for exporting to other countries.
