Bhubaneswar: Neurosurgeon Bitant Kumar Misra who was born in Odisha has received ‘international lifelong achievement award in neurosurgery’ provided by the Association of American Neurological Surgeons (AAN).
He is the first Indian to get this honor.
Misra, a native of Bhubaneswar and the son of the famous economist and Litterateur Baidyanath Misra, is currently the head of the surgery, head of the neurosurgage department and radiosurgery gamma knife, Hindu Hindu Hospital and medical research center, Mumbai.
“This award is actually a recognition of high-quality medical care in India in the field of neurosurgery.
The progress made in this country in the past decade is very phenomenal and equivalent to the world with a small portion of their costs,” Misra said.
He added that care in India is a world class and is considered very high.
“We have the best infrastructure, skills, and technology.
At the same time, there are also shortcomings of neurosurgeons.
There are only around 2,000 neurosurgeons for more than one billion countries,” he added.
He was also a prestigious DR BC National Roy award in the category of medical personnel terminal (highest medical award in India) in 2018.
He was the first surgeon in the world to carry out an aneurysm surgery guided by computers.
Misra is a member of more than 20 associations or communities around the world.
He was the first vice president of the Federation of Social World Nerves (WFN), the President of the World Federation of Skull Bases and the President of the Honor of the Australians of the Asian Neurological Surgery.
He is a guest professor of around 14 medical schools and hospitals, including Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston.
He is a review of 10 medical journals around the world and recipients of several awards and awards.
Misra, who has completed its MBBS from Vimsar, Burla, is the best graduate from the University of Sambalpur in 1975.
He is a recipient of four gold medals in the MBBS course.
Then, he received the Master of Surgery (MS) from Delhi University in 1980 and MCH Nurosurgery from AIIMS New Delhi in 1983.
