Aizawl: The current conditions of chaos in Myanmar because the ongoing civil war produces not only in the entry of refugees to Mizoram but also causes a sharp increase in drugs and narcotics trade across 404 km-Mizoram-Myanmar International which is very porous to the border official, excise state excise Narcotics.
A senior official of the Excise Ministry and Narcotics Department in Aizawl told Ti that because the passage was easy, the price of heroin drastically fell.
“While the value of the Hawng road (12 to 13gm hero package) is more than RS 80,000 when the border is sealed because of Covid-19 years ago, the same thing can be purchased for RS 25,000 in Mizoram and sold in Mizoram for Rs 30,000 to RS 35,000,” said The official, adding that Myanmar’s government was too busy with civil war to examine narcotics trade.
He said payments became easier using banks or other channels while the shipment of heroin was transported from Myanmar to Mizoram by vehicle even without the knowledge of the driver.
While the drug “mutual” is still in business where large amounts are involved, some people in Mizoram take the consignment of Myanmar, he said.
Mizoram remains one of the main channels for narcotics trade, acknowledging the official, adding that smuggling continues through routes in Bangladesh, Manipur, Assam and Tripura to Western countries.
Metamfetamine or “Met Crystal” is also traded through Mizoram to European and Middle East countries, he said.
