‘The food on the wheel’ makes them back to the track

Thiruvananthapuram: A group of eight women from the unit of Pettah Kudumbasree rebuilt their lives stopped because of a pandemic.
They run ‘restaurants on wheels’ at the Thampanoor bus terminal; The second initiative of the Kudumbasree mission.
“This business has become a great relief for us.
It will encourage other women like us to come up with innovative ideas like this.
We get a good response and reception from people, especially from KSRTC employees,” said Priya Harikrishnan, a person employee.
New restaurants aim to provide traditional, ugly, and healthy food for the public.
The program was developed to increase the presence of Kudumbashree in the city food business and also aimed at empowering women by including kudumbashree workers to improve their financial status.
The dining room was formed from the dead KSRTC bus and the renovation of the bus was carried out by the catering unit.
It was then painted and the chair arranged for dining.
The budget for this comes around Rs 2 Lakh.
The bus can accommodate around 20 people at once.
KSRTC employees will receive food in the discount rate.
Steamed food is the main attraction.
Apart from steamed food, lunch is packed with fish and chicken, snacks, fresh juice, and shakes are also available at reasonable prices.
The restaurant will work every day starting at 5:00 to 10:00 a.m.
The restaurant on the wheels was inaugurated by the Minister of Transportation Antony Raju on Monday.
Previously, Kudumbashree’s first restaurant, ‘Pink Café’ was launched at Fort East.
“Pandemics have influenced our lives badly.
So this new unit gives me the opportunity to return to work.
It has a therapeutic effect, I feel better and happier,” said Reji Mol S, an employee.
