Gurgaon: More than 100 trees over 75 years old in two South Haryana Regency will soon get ‘inheritance’ status.
Thirty trees are in Gurgaon while 74 are in Mahendergarh.
This is the first survey in the state.
The Ministry of Forestry is conducting a similar survey in four other South Haryana districts.
According to the legacy tree rules, 2021, if there are people or organizations that cut, ax or cause damage to trees ‘inheritance’, they can be fined until RS 500 or prison face up to one month or both.
Among the trees that will be marked are Kadamb, Indrokh, Pipal Bargard, Neem, Jand and Imli.
Most of these are in the village, temple, aravali legs, elementary school, choupals and near the pool.
“According to our survey, this district has 30 old trees.
We take steps to save them,” Rajeev Tajyan, Division Forest Officer, Gurgaon.
According to the Ministry of Forestry, there are at least 2,500 trees in the state that have reached 75 years or more.
The Haryana government plans to provide retirement of Rs 2,500 per year to the owner of the heritage tree.
This scheme will apply to those on private and government land, until the period of the life of the inheritance tree.
Environmental lovers welcomed the move, showing that in the absence of tree actions in Haryana, many old trees were chopped to clean the deck for development projects.
“Punishment for tree logging can be ignored in Haryana.
Even forest officials often admit that they do not have enough strength to act against violators and punish them.
We need strong action.
The legacy tag will help preserve old trees,” said Jitender Bhadana’s environmental activist , In neighboring Delhi, for each tree cut down, violators must deposit RS 34,500 with the Ministry of Forestry and Plants of 10 puppies.
Also, under the preservation of Delhi trees, 1994, anyone who found Norma Flouts could face a period of prison for seven years.
Development work for years has taken victims on a gurgaon green cover.
The protected city forest area is 1,600 hectares, which is only 2% of the total territory.
According to data from the Ministry of Forestry, 1,657 adult trees were cut for projects in 2013-14, 1,604 in 2014-15 and 1,430 in 2015-16.
In 2017, NHAI received permission to cut 5,000 trees to build firover and underpass at NH-48.
The following year, approval was given to cut 15,000 trees to expand the SOHNA road.
In 2019, permission to remove 1,300 trees in Atul Kataria Chowk was given.
In the same year, the Ministry of Forestry gave a nod to GMDA to the AX 450 tree to widen three roads at Udyog Vihar.
A total of 15,884 trees were also cut down from Subhash Chowk to Badshapur Chowk on a 22 km stretch for expansion and road heights.
Similarly, in 2020, NHAI asked permission to cut 1,500 trees that were fully planted for regional fast transit systems.
