Udhagamandalam: Two days after the residents of Vazhithtam submitted the Petition of the K Ramachandran forest concerning the feeding of wild elephants in the area, the Ministry of Forestry on Friday warned strict action on people who did it.
To spread the same awareness, the forest department has been trapped in a notification in the VazhaHothottam area stating that tempting or feeding wild elephants or other animals or pulling them with food that can be punished by violations under the Law of Wildlife Protection.
It also warns of strict action against people involved in such activities.
The notification was issued by the Deputy Director of the Buffer Zone Mudumalai Tiger.
When the Minister of Forest visited the Vazhaitottam area on Wednesday to examine Tusker ‘Rivaldo’, which was stored in Kraal for treatment, the locals complained that some criminals in the area fed wild elephants and tried to domestate them.
Forest officers said, “We have trapped a notification in various places in Vazhaithtam to create awareness among the people about the Wildlife Protection Act and keep criminals from breastfeeding and teasing wild elephants.” TNN.
