Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada Federation Center for Education Resources has expressed concern for the increasing number of school dropouts in the district.
A recent survey conducted by Panchayats and MCC has revealed that this district has around 567 dropouts between the ages of 7 to 18 years at 2020-21.
The Department of Public Teaching has so far succeeded in returning around 157 children to continue their education.
Efforts to bring the rest back.
Federation members met Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner K v Rajendra recently, and filed a memorandum.
Vatsala rose, the Secretary of the Federation, said that the surprising survey results.
“This problem needs to be dealt with with the provisions of children’s rights to free and compulsory education effort, 2009.
Under Section 9 RTE laws, it is the responsibility of local agencies – both gram Panchayat in rural areas, and city bodies in Cities or cities, to ensure that all children must attend school.
They must also maintain records of all school children, by conducting a survey.
The district government must direct the local body in this matter, “they said.
Denis d’Souza, coordinator in the rice, and part of the federation, shows that there is a tendency of students who turn into child labor after drop out of school.
“We suspect that many of them have become children workers after dropping out of school, and the number of school dropouts has increased.
Therefore, we have also asked the Ministry of Manpower to see problems and conduct surveys in all districts, to find out the reason why this happened.
“Denis said the closing of the school for a very long time and the financial crisis among the families because of the Pandemic Covid-19, it might have forced children to stop their education and support their families.
