New Delhi: A small fire broke in the AIIMS emergency ward on Monday morning.
There were no reported injuries.
All patients from surrounding areas are evacuated and saved from affected areas as precautions.
The victim area was closed for several hours.
Some patients were transferred to Safdarjung while some were adjusted at AIIMS itself.
“A call was received at 5.04 on fire in the operating theater (OT) from the emergency department and seven fire tenders were rushed to AIIMS.
This situation is controlled in one hour and there are no casualties or injuries to anyone,” said Aug Garg, Director, Delhi Fire Service (DFS).
The fire broke in the adjacent shop room with OT, he added.
The victim department then reopened.
This is the fourth fire incident in AIIMS since January last year.
Senior officials from firefighters stated that hospitals always had the entry of patients.
“The building is old and needs maintenance, but because of the loading of patients, it does not occur and such fire incidents continue to occur,” they said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Atul Kumar Thakur said, “Investigation is ongoing to ensure the exact cause of fire”.
Other small blazes were reported at Safdarjung Hospital on Monday morning.
“A call was received at 7.58 in the morning about the fire near the hospital canteen area.
Three tenders fire rushed to the place.
The fire broke out in the underground cable.
It was very quickly controlled and there was no injury reported,” Garg added.
