New Delhi: The function of national sports awards, which is held on August 29 every year, has been pushed back because the government wants the selection panel to consider the performances of Paraghpics athletes who compete in Tokyo Paralympics.
Paralympics will be held from August 24 and conclude at 5.
September Minister Sport Anurag Thakur said the selection panel to choose award-winning has been formed but they prefer to wait more time before continuing the selection process.
“The National Sports Award Committee has been formed for this year but the Paralympics have not been held so we want to add winners from Paralympics too.
I hope and hope they will perform very well,” said Thakur during the function of the National Youth Award.
Award – Khel Ratna award, Arjuna award, Dronacharya award and Dhyan Chand award – given every year by the President of the State on August 29, National Sports Day which is also the birth of the birth of Hockey Legend Major Dhyan.

The nomination process for National Honors ended on July 5 after two extensions.
Applicants are permitted to run themselves online considering the pandemic but the national federation has also sent their preferences.
The Indian contingent produced his best performance in the Tokyo match which had just been concluded where the country’s athletes won seven medals, including gold, two bronze medals and four bronze.
India sent its biggest contingent from 54 athletes to Tokyo.
In the last Paralympics, Indian athletes returned with the catch of four medals, including two gold, silver and bronze.
Khel Ratna, the highest sports honor of the country, recently renamed after Hockey Wizard Major Dhyan Chand.
This award was previously named after former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
The gift money for sports awards increased substantially last year.
The Khel Ratna award is now equipped with Rs 25 Lakh gift, much higher than the previous number of Rs 7.5 lakh.
The cash prize for the Arjuna award has been upgraded to Rs 15 Lakh from RS 5 Lakh, Dronacharya recipient (lifetime), which was previously given RS 5 Lakh, is now given Rs 15 Lakh.
Dronacharya (Regular) Get Rs 10 Lakh Instead of Rs 5 Lakh per recipient, while the Dhyan Chand award was given Rs 10 Lakh, not Rs 5 Lakh.
