Tirupur: Hundreds of garment manufacturing, coloring, knit and other allied units in the district remained closed for the second day in a row on Tuesday to attract the attention of the United States on the increase in yarn prices and find solutions to this problem.
The textile manufacturer’s section protested in front of the Tirupur train station on the day, by holding placards and demanding the center to take immediate steps to reduce yarn prices.
While the Knitwear Cloth (KnitCMA) producer association previously announced that they would hold a railroad blockade, they did not try to block the train.
Representatives of other associations, including exporters of tirupur and producer associations, and political party officials participated in the protest.
They held placards demanding the center to curb cotton exports, import duty memos on threads and end stockpiling stock.
The garment manufacturer said they hope that the center will take steps to reduce yarn prices after a two-day strike.
They also launched a plan to meet the minister of trade unions and submit memorandum in this matter.
“If the center fails to take steps to limit prices, we will consider the next action.”
