Ghaziabad: Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) on Tuesday cleared the proposal to increase home tax by 15% with direct effects.
The proposal met with the opposition from several board members, but was cleaned by the board in the end.
“In 2017, the GMC Board has passed a proposal to increase home taxes by 5% every year, but apply in two years.
But the new tax regime does not apply to several reasons or others.
This time, it is delayed by a pandemic.

“Home tax in Ghaziabad is the lowest in the state.

With a rate of increase, GMC hopes to get an additional RS 21 Crore.
“The home tax rate is calculated based on a number of factors, such as road width adjacent to the building, making a house and so on.
Home tax varies between 40 Paisa per square foot and Rs 1.40 per square foot,” he added.
“Until now, there are more than 3.5 Lakh consumers offered tax rates.
Even after this hiking level, the number will not cause a lot of burden on consumers,” Sinha said.
At the same meeting, the GMC board cleaned the RS 946 Crore budget for the financial year of 2021-22.
The corporation hopes to get 1,197 crore rs in income.
However, the GMC plan to build multilevel underground parking near Ambedkar Park met with the opposition from both council members in the council and residents outside the building.
A group of protesters under the Ambedkar Janmotsav Samiti held a demonstration outside Hindi Bhawan, where the meeting was ongoing.
“Ambedkar Park should not be converted into a parking space because it disrupts the sentiment of the Dalit community.
This park is named BR Ambedkar,” said Rakesh Jatav, a protester.
Inside the building too, there is a commotion.
“We have explained to GMC that it must look for land elsewhere,” said Tyagi.
Commissioner of Tanwar City said for the state government to decide on parking fate.
“The opposition from the council and people will be submitted to the state government.
