Panaji: In an effort to overcome the power supply fluctuations during the peak load period, the state government is exploring renewable energy storage technology, which will release the power generated through solar power plants back to the peak tissue during rush hour.
The State Electricity Department works with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) to see whether such projects can increase the power supply, especially for the industry, said Minister of Power Nilesh Cabral.
In a virtual meeting with industrial stakeholders, especially the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Goa (GCCI), Cabral emphasizes more solar power plants and convincing local industries from reliable power supply.
GCCI, which regulates a virtual meeting, asks Cabral to focus on adequate, reliable, affordable and consistent power supply in the state.
“The tourism sector is very dependent on quality power for operation, production, utilities and recreational facilities.
Disorders, fluctuations, and power decreases create total interference in this sector.
Therefore, travelers are forced to depend on the diesel generator set, which is expensive to run,” said President GCCI Ralph De Sousa.
In January, the state government had approached the unification of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNE) to conduct a feasibility study and provide technical assistance to establish a renewable power plant energy project in the state.
Goa needs around 540mW power during the day and 640mW during rush hour from 6pm to 11:00.
Speaking on behalf of the pharmaceutical sector, Dr.
Praveen Khullar requested the Electricity Department to allow a transient grid synchronization that would reduce interruptions.
Dr.
Khullar, who is the President of the Cave Pharmaceutical Producers Association, said that power fluctuations caused financial production and losses.
Recognizing that the power supply scenario in the state can be improved, Cabral said he had a “big plan” to reform the electricity sector.
The Minister of Power also urged the industry to establish solar power plants.
“The government wants to provide a reliable and affordable power supply for the country and adequate steps have been taken in this matter,” said Cabral.
He asked the private sector of Goa, especially those from the manufacturing and tourism sectors to submit ideas for the business plan of the three-year electricity department.
