New Delhi: In a big boost for Indian wrestling, the Government of Uttar Pradesh has adopted sports and is expected to pump the investment of Rs 170 Crore in infrastructure and support to wrestlers to 2032 Olympics, President Warrants Singh told PTI.
The top boss of the Indian Wrestling Federation (WFI) said that they took inspiration from the support of the Odisha government against hockey sports and they approached the government for the same help as their game.
“Odisha is a small country, but they support hockey in such a way, so we think, why can’t it rise, which is a big condition, supports wrestling.
We approach them and CM Yogi Adityanath has accepted it,” said Singh.
“In our proposal, we have requested RS 10 Crore support every year to 2024 matches (RS 30 Crore) and in the next Olympic cycle until 2028, we have requested support of Rs 15 Crore per year (Rs 60 Crore) and in the last phase of up to 2032 , it is Rs 20 Crore per year (RS 80 Crore), “he explained the details.
“With this happening, the sponsor will not be limited to the country’s elite wrestlers.
Even the cadet level wrestler will get a sponsor and we will be able to provide a prize money to the national champion.” WFI has also been repeatedly in Tata Motors in 2018 as the main sponsor of Indian wrestling, a partnership that has brought financial support Rs 12 Crore which allows the federation to provide the main contract to the wrestlers to the Tokyo game.
It has been studied that the partnership will be extended on Friday with a new agreement.
President WFI said this agreement with the upper government would allow them to plan a travel exposure to foreign countries even for Indian cadet level wrestlers.
“Until now, only senior wrestlers and elites have personal trainers and foreign coach guidance.
But we can also invest in training our junior cadets and wrestlers.” Now we can send our cadet wrestlers abroad for training and exposure.
We need wrestling to the next level, “he said.
WFI has expanded financial support to 60 juniors (Rs 7500 per month wrestling) and cadet (RS 5000 per month) wrestlers.
It still has to be seen at the state government, if WFI allows Personal NGOs such as JSW and OGQ to support wrestling.
Asked about this, Singh said the door was open but with a condition.
“We really didn’t need it even before.
But if they want to support, they are welcome.
What we want is that they remain transparent with WFI.
They cannot make their own secret deal with wrestlers.
If at all they want to help, they can sit with us and prepare plans with us, “said Singh.
The Head of WFI said it sent wrestlers to foreign countries for exposure and training but they wanted to put a system where the international wrestler came to India and Practice here.
“Let me tell you that we will have a sophisticated wrestling academy in India for men and women.
One of the academies in Lucknow will definitely come and we hope that others developed in Noida, where we will invite international wrestlers to come, live and practice with our wrestles.
“I told CM that we wanted international wrestlers to come to India.
It must help our Indian wrestlers.
Why do they have to get out all the time and stay away.
We will give them the best sparring partners in India.” Asked whether there was a change in guards at the state level in the coming year, will the agreement stay? Singh said, “The cabinet’s decision will continue to be followed, regardless of who leads the state government.
It remains a government project.”
