Hyderabad: The Minister of Health of the Mansukh Mandaviya on Tuesday said the government had approved the Bharat Biotech vaccine manufacturing facility in Ankleshwar in Gujarat to produce the first CovaXin Covid-19 vaccine developed by the original.
The minister said this step will help increase the availability of custom vaccines for national vaccination.
“The Indian government approves vaccine manufacturing facilities for Covaxin Bharat Biotech production in Ankleshware, Gujarat,” Mandaviya tweeted.
“Following the vision of PM Narendra Modiji about sabkovacccinemertainvaccine, this will increase the availability of vaccines & accelerate the largest vaccine drive in the world,” said Minister of Health.
Bharat Biotech has been, in May this year, announced its plan to reuse the BSL2 + Ankleshwar facility, which made rabies vaccine, for making 200 million doses per year Covaxin.
The supply of vaccines from Ankleshwar facilities will be available starting September, said the company recently.
Bharat Biotech has said that he started Covaxin manufacturing in Ankleshwar and a malur unit near Bengaluru from the beginning of June, before it carries out the technique batch to study equipment functionality.
The facilities at Ankleshwar were acquired by Bharat Biotech in early 2019 from Glaxosmithkline Asia as part of the acquisition of the Chiron Behring Pvt Ltd vaccine.
