New Delhi: The government has approved the master plan for the upcoming Nida International Airport (NIA) which will begin operations in about three years by handling 1.2 crore passengers every year with one terminal and runway.
During the 40-year concession period, it will reach a peak capacity of 7 crore passengers in four phase expansion through two runways and as many terminals.
The master plan, prepared by Landrum & Brown flight consultants and Zurich Airport International, has been cleaned by DGCA, AAI, BCAS and Environmental Authority.
“Even though the master plan is ready to accommodate requests throughout the 40-year concession period with two runways, the Uttar Pradesh government has greater aspirations over the wider time horizon to ultimately have five runways.
The Masterplan airport provides a platform for this aspirational growth,” said Nia Ltd (nial) in a statement.
Yamuna International Airport Private Ltd (Yiapl) CEO Christoph Schnellmann said: “The approval of the master plan is an important milestone, because it paves the way for the development of the Noida International Airport for the next 40 years.
