‘The government does not consider booster shots now’

Pune: Member of Niti Aayog (Health) Dr.
V K Paul on Saturday said the country did not consider the Covid vaccine amplifier shot at this time, clarifying that there were no recommendations from the National Technical Advisory Group on immunization (Ntagi).
“The knowledge of the need and the booster shot time still evolved.
Different vaccines may have a different schedule.
It was watched and studied carefully,” said Dr.
Paul to Ti Members Niti Aayog said the focus is now covering the population of the country’s adult with two doses of covid vaccine .
Against the background of the Chair of the Serum Institute of India (SII) Cyrus Poonawalla stressed on the needs of the third dose or a six-month covishield vaccine booster after the second dose, Dr.
Paul said that very few countries in the world, including the US and Israel had started with a dose of vaccine booster.
He said there were no recommendations from the World Health Organization (WHO) about it.
“We are watching the data that arises in this case continuously and will be guided by the National Technical Advisory Group on immunization (ntagi) in this case,” he said.
About reducing the gap between two doses of covishield, Dr.
Paul said there were no recommendations from Ntagi too.
“This gap between two covishield doses is based on science and currently there is no problem about it.
So, the government is currently not thinking of reducing the gap between the two doses,” he said.
At present, the gap between two covishield doses is 84 days or 12-16 weeks.
The SII chairman recently said in the interaction that the ideal gap between two covishield doses was two months due to fighting a 12-16 week gap mandated by the government.
