The government feeds the growth of the OTT platform by allowing self-regulation: Thakur’s anurag

New Delhi: The media and entertainment industry, and over the top platform (OTT) in particular, will fuel economic growth and work in several years and the government encourages this trend by enabling the OTT platform to regulate itself, information and sports Minister Anurag Thakur said at the present KTT on Thursday.
Recognizing the exponential growth of the OTT platform, Thakur said the media industry and entertainment are projected to be worth 4 lakh crore at 2025 and that the OTT platform only has the potential to employ 80 lakh people.
With the expected investment worth 30,000 crore in the next three years, where 45% is likely to go through FDI, Thakur said India is also the 6th largest OTT market in the world, even though it is still in its newborn growth stage.
He did not agree with the “Over Sensor” claim by the government and said the OTT platform was allowed to regulate itself.
“There is a three-level mechanism for redressal complaints and 95% of the complaints they receive resolved with their own level,” he said.
