The government is looking to change the rules with motorists, said K Rajan

Thiruvananthapuram: The government is in the process of changing the rules of land assignment (1964) to regulate the construction made in it by assignment – breaking the rules in the Munnar area – subject to certain conditions, said Revenue Minister K Rajan in the Assembly Monday.
Replying to submission by MLA MM Mani, Rajan said that the rules were changed would be in cases where construction was carried out within 15 cents for housing purposes where the area was less than 1,500 sq ft.
The task must prove that they do not have other land elsewhere to take advantage of this concession, the Minister said.
The government has made this policy decision after a widespread development occurs on land assigned to agricultural purposes in Munnar, especially KDH, Chinnakanal, Pallivasal, Anaviratti, Velatooval, Santhanpara, Valley and Anavilasom.
In the case of Munnar, the court has intervened when the land given for the purpose of Agri began to be widely used for construction activities, which violated the law.
The Minister said that on the basis of a high court order, the government had made it mandatory for the income department to issue certificates without objections to construction in these villages.
The departmental certificate makes it must mention the goal where the land is assigned.
The Minister added that because this problem was sub-research (before the High Court), the Legal Department had given his opinion that the government must take permission from the High Court to change the rules in this matter.
