New Delhi: The government has decided to convert the “experimental” scheme to induction of women as a combat pilot at the IAF to be “permanent” now, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said on Tuesday.
“This is a testimony for the ability of India’s ‘Nari Shakti’ and our PM Modi commitment to women’s empowerment,” Singh said.
The IAF has launched a “experimental scheme” to induce women as a combat pilot for a period of five years in 2016, saying that it will be reviewed at the next stage.
“The Ministry of Defense has now given permission to make it a permanent scheme,” IAF Commander Wing Ashish Moghe said.
The IAF has up to now assign 16 women into his combat stream, with most of them already flying a supersonic jet like the MiG-21 `bison ‘solo.
Lieutenant Avani Chaturvedi, who has been the first woman to fly the MIG-21 solo, and Bhawana Kanth currently flew the Sukhoi-30MKI fighters from Russia.
Flight Lt Shivangi Singh, in turn, has become the first woman to tear into the sky on the Jet Rafale-from France’s role that was beaten as part of the 15th arrow squadron on Ambala.
With it took over RS 15 Crore to train a single fighter pilot, IAF had long opposed women regardless in the battleflow because it would not interfere with “tight fighting schedule” if they married and had children.
But the fighter fighter pilot is flying high now.
