Bhubaneswar: The State Government on Monday requested an agent responsible for the maintenance of the road here to investigate the cause of fatal gains at the intersection and submit their reports within two months.
The Secretary of the Transport Department of Madan Sudan Padhi on Monday revealed great concerns over the increase in fatal accidents at the intersection (where Jalan Feeder joined the state and national highway) despite the steps to calm the traffic placed by institutions that maintain roads, including The State Department of State and National Highway Authority (NHAI).
Odisha has 8,102 intersections and calming steps of traffic has been confirmed to all these things to prevent accidents.
But data from the state crime branch shows that at least 2,594 accidents occurred at the intersection by 2020, causing 1,164 deaths.
“The fatality at the intersection is around 25% of the total accidental death in the state in 2020.
This is a concern.
Odisha to review the intersection and find out the reason for the recurrence of an accident even though there was a step of calming traffic, “Padhi said.
Death related to road accidents in the state has increased by almost 21% from 3,931 in 2014 to 4,738 by 2020, according to the crime branch data.
