New Delhi: The Minister of Science and Technology Jitendra Singh on Friday released a set of guidelines to provide a well-defined framework and the guiding principle to facilitate the distribution of biological information and data produced by the research group in this country.
“Biotech-Pride (research and innovation promotion through data exchange) Guidelines will facilitate this and allow information exchange to promote research and innovation in various research groups throughout the country,” said a statement.
Singh also launched the Indian biological data center website (IBDC).
“This guideline aims to provide a well-defined framework and the guidance principle to facilitate and enable sharing and exchange of biological knowledge, information and data and specifically apply to high throughput, high volume data produced by research groups throughout the country, “The statement said.
This guideline does not deal with the generation of biological data but is a mechanism for sharing and exchanging information and knowledge produced in accordance with existing laws, rules, regulations and norms, he said.
They will ensure the benefits of sharing data, maximizing use, avoiding duplication, maximizing integration, ownership information, better decision making and access equity, the statement said.
This guideline is a mechanism for sharing data publicly and within a reasonable period of time after data generation.
Thus, the data utility will be maximal, he said.
His right, the accrual benefit of public investment for data generators will not be compromised, the statement said.
Singh at first this guideline will be carried out through IBDC in the Biotechnology regional center supported by the Biotechnology Department (DBT).
DataSet and other data centers will be bridged with this IBDC which will be called bio-grid, he said.
This bio-grid will be a national repository for biological knowledge, information and data and will be responsible for allowing its exchange, develop steps for safety, standards and quality for datasets and build detailed modalities to access data, add ministers.
This guide will help harmonize, synergize and encourage data distribution for research and analysis in this country and to promote scientific work and foster progress by building a previous job, Singh said.
This guideline will also be profitable in avoiding duplication and expenditure in resources that are in vain in research, he said.
Singh said with a population of more than 135 crore characters and heterogeneous countries, India requires its own exclusive database for Indian research and solutions.
There is no scarcity of talent in this country and the customary database will have a mechanism that allows for exchange and adoption of data by young scientists and researchers for the benefit of Indian citizens, he said.
Describing the release of biotech-proud as the first of its kind by DBT, Singh said the rank of India was fourth among the top 20 countries contributing to biological databases.
The government invested a large number of public funds to produce data in various sectors, including in biosains for generation of knowledge, to gain deep insight into complicated biological mechanisms and other processes and to be added.
Singh said progress in DNA sequencing and other technologies along with steep decreases in the cost of DNA sequencing has enabled government institutions to fund research on the generation of large volumes of biosciences data in various sectors of biosciences.
He said sharing a variety of large-scale data advanced an understanding of the molecular and biological processes that would contribute to human health on agriculture, livestock, fundamental research and thus will extend social benefits.
