NEW DELHI: The government learned to return to the name of the Supreme Court of the Supreme Court 14 advocates recommended for the height of the Judge of the High Court.
The government’s source said all names were returned with requests to reconsider in the range of one weeks sometimes at the end of July and early August.
But the recommendation by the APEX Court collegium was made almost a year ago.
In some cases recommendations made more than a year ago.
The names for the height are made for the Delhi High Court, Calcutta, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka and Kerala, said the source without describing.
In a written reply on the question at Rajya Sabha during the rainy season, Law Minister Kiren Rijiju has said for the past year, the Supreme Court Collegium recommends 80 names for appointment as a judge of various high courts, where 45 judges.
Designated and the rest of the proposal is under various processing stages.
He said that between July 1, 2020, and July 15, 2021, the Supreme Court Colegium made 80 recommendations for appointment of judges in various high courts.
Of these, 45 “recommendations” were appointed by the government as the Judge of the High Court and “the remaining proposals are under various processing stages with the government and Collegium SC”, Rijju said.
India has 25 high courts with a sanction power of 1,098 judges.
Working strength as on August 1 stood in 643 – shortages of 455 judges.
