New Delhi: In an effort to improve the economy as a case of Covid-19 daily in this country has fallen, the central government is considering the issuance of immediate tourist visas, confirming officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday.
A senior MHA official confirmed that things had been formalized and a meeting had been summoned at the Ministry of Home Affairs which will be chaired by the Secretary of the House on Thursday to discuss plans to continue tourist visas.
The official said that it would be done in stages and in accordance with the feasibility, it would open for all.
The government is likely to allow only people who are vaccinated to submit tourist visas.
The tourist visa was suspended since March 2020, since the first locking was announced.
Then, some visa categories such as business, work and others are excluded but tourist visas are still suspended.
Many Gulf countries have continued tourist visas.
Before suspension of tourist visas, around 7-8 lakh ordinary tours came to India every month.
India recorded 27,176 new Covid-19 cases and 284 deaths in the last 24 hours on Wednesday.
The active case has dropped to 3.51 lakh.
Less than 50,000 everyday cases have been reported for 80 consecutive days now.
Covid-19 has greatly affected the tourism industry, producing loss of work and closing hotels and restaurants.
