Aizawl: Former Minister of Chief Brigadier Thenphunga Cucu Sailo, Zodinliana Sailo, surrendered before the police in Aizawl on Thursday morning in connection with the suspected sodomy case in 2018.
Sailo allegedly sodomy young people aged 25 years on September 9, 2018.
He and others co- Distiged, R Lalhruitlauang, was arrested after complaints submitted on September 28, but both managed to secure a guarantee.
After public protests and media attention, the District and Additional Session Aizawl HTC Lalrinchhana issued an arrest warrant on Wednesday against Sailo and Lalhruaitlangua.
But when the police went to arrest Sailo, he allegedly avoided the arrest and surrendered before the police around 2am on Thursday.
When Lalhruaitlangua was tested positive for Covid-19, the police today made him still isolation at his home.
The case was revealed after relatives of the victims accused the police not to register the case even after complaints were submitted.
One of the relatives accused the police trying to convince the family to resolve the case with the defendant.
However, after public protests, the police initially registered the case under the planted section.
After more protests, they add non-translucent charges.
