Lucknow: The team of doctors at Balrampur Hospital Lucknow achieved rare achievements on Thursday when they took out a hair ball with a weight of 2 kg from the abdomen of a young girl.
The rare disorder called Trichobezoar occurs when people who are not stable mentally involved in obsessive hair pullers and eat it, which then accumulates as a lump in the stomach.
A 17-year-old girl from Balrampur district approaches the hospital with abdominal pain and gastrointestinal problems.
The initial diagnosis through ultrasonography and CT scanning showed unknown lumps in the girl’s stomach.
“I did endoscopy and hair balls found.
The patient denies his hair, let alone consumed it.
This type of rare condition occurs in people who are not stable mentally.
After a lot of persuading, the patient finally agreed that he had taken obsessive actions over the past five years,” said Head of the team, Surgeon Dr.
Sr.
Samaddar.
Weighing 2 kg, hair clots taken measured 20×15 centimeters in dimensions and needed one and a half hours of operation carried out on Thursday.
“Patients need counseling and so we have suggested psychiatric assistance for him.
He will also need at least 10 days of healing and five days of hospital observation,” added Dr.
Samaddar.
