The Head of Myanmar’s Junta was excluded from the ASEAN Summit

Brunei: The head of Myanmar’s junta will be expelled from the upcoming ASEAN Summit, the group said on Saturday, a rare reprimand because of concerns rose to the commitment of the military government to interpret the bloody crisis.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs from the Association of Southeast Asian countries approved an emergency meeting at the end of Friday that “non-political representatives” for Myanmar was invited to the October 26-28 Summit, the current ASEAN seat said in a statement.
The decision effectively excludes the leader of Junta Min Aung Hlaing.
Blocks, are widely criticized as organizations without ompong, standing upright after the junta refused the request for the special envoy to meet with all parties concerned – a phrase that was seen including the civil leader who was overthrown with Aung San Suu Kyi.
The statement noted “inadequate progress” in the implementation of the five-point plan agreed upon by ASEAN leaders in April to end the chaos after the coup in February.
It is said that the situation in Myanmar “has an impact on regional security and the unity, credibility and ASEAN centrality”.
Richard Horsey, Myanmar’s advisor to the Crisis Group, predicted “non-political” representatives would be someone under the level of minister or deputy minister.
The Singapore Foreign Ministry illustrates the step as “difficult decisions but need to uphold ASEAN credibility”.
Mustafa Izzuddin, Global Affairs Analyst at the Singapore Solaris Strategy Consultation, called Exclusion “Political Throne Size for ASEAN to relieve international criticism”.
It sent “the political signal” to the junta “that ASEAN is not pushed around”, added Izzuddin.
And Independent Myanmar analyst David Mathieson said that “in the term ASEAN this is a real slap on the face”.
Myanmar, mostly ruled by the military since the 1962 coup, has become a Duri in the ASEAN team since joining in 1997.
The election in 2015 was won by the National Party Suu Kyi for the Democratic Party (NLD) which was delivered in the early civilian government – but this cut off by the coup.
Myanmar has been under international pressure to overcome the riots that erupted after Putsch, including massive protests; new clashes between military and ethnic rebel forces in the border area; and the economy rotates to free plunge.
ASEAN has expressed disappointment in the lack of cooperation from the junta, which continues to crack down on differences of opinion.
More than 1,000 civilians have been killed, according to local monitoring groups.
The part of the consensus is to allow a long-delayed visit by a special envoy, Brunei’s second foreign minister Erywan Yusof.
ASEAN insisted that he met all parties concerned, but Junta rejected every meeting proposed with people at the trial, including Suu Kyi, who faced various charges.
A Senior US Administrative Officer, commented on media reports about the exception before the official statement was released, said, “It seems very precise and, in fact, fully justified for ASEAN to reduce Burma’s participation”, using the name of the former Myanmar.
Member countries have voiced their disappointment on the road that the Junta has chosen.
“If there is no real progress, Malaysia’s attitude will remain: that we will not want General to attend the Summit.
There is no compromise about it,” said Malaysian Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah Friday ahead of the meeting.
Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said in a tweet after the meeting that his country had proposed that Myanmar “should not be represented at the political level” at the top to restore “his democracy through an inclusive process”.
Aung Myo Min, the Minister of Human Rights Minister of the Shadow, which was overthrown by Members of the Myanmar parliament, called Nug, praising the exception as a “very strong action” and voicing Harapan ASEAN will admit Nug as a legitimate government of Myanmar.
Political activist Minn Kyaw Kyaw Linn, 23, who organized protests at Mandalay where the ASEAN flag was burned in June, said it was time for blocks to allow Nug representatives to meet.
Junta – officially known as the State Administration Board – has promised to hold an election and raised an emergency in August 2023.
