Coronavirus infection increased in most parts of the world as a Delta variant spread, clear evidence that the pandemic was not in Wane, said the head of the world health organization scientist.
While the level of vaccination in several countries reduces the case and severe inpatient care, most of the shortcomings of world oxygen shortages, the lack of hospital beds and higher death, WHO’s Sougia Swaminathan said in an interview with Bloomberg Television.
“In the last 24 hours, almost 500,000 new cases have been reported and around 9,300 deaths – now it’s not a slowing pandemic,” Swaminathan said.
Cases increased in five of the six WHO regions, and the death rate in Africa had surged 30% to 40% in two weeks, said Swaminathan.
The main reason for the increase is the Delta variant that spreads rapidly, globally slow vaccination launches and relaxation of security measures such as masks and physical distance rules.
WHO this week urged the government to be careful when reopened so that it does not risk risks made.
In the UK, the remaining law restrictions arranged to be removed on July 19, and steps such as wearing a mask would be a personal choice.
The US and most of Europe also loosen the sidewalk when the case drops.
“The idea that everyone is protected and is Kumbaya and everything returns to normal is a very dangerous assumption now anywhere in the world,” Mike Ryan, Head of the WHO Health Emergency program, said in the media briefing on Wednesday.
